For many of us, reaching out to a new therapist can be the most intimidating part of the whole process. Hopefully, this introduction will give you a feel for my approach to supporting clients. If it sounds like your cup of tea, I’d love to connect and see if we’re a good fit.
Hi! I’m April, and I work with children ages five and up, as well as teens and adults who are facing all kinds of mental health challenges - things like anxiety, stress, trauma, school struggles, career confusion, health issues, or those “What is my life even right now?” moments. I have a passion for working with young people, and I also have a special interest in supporting adults through the unique challenges we may encounter across different stages of life.
My approach is based on curiosity and respect. I believe that my clients are the experts on their own lives. Sometimes, when we feel stuck, working with a supportive therapist helps build new clarity and insight. We can grow by exploring how our brains work and how to work with our brains. My job is to walk alongside you or your child as a supportive guide, offering tools, a fresh perspective, and an outlet to figure things out. We will collaborate to choose an approach tailored to help you reach your unique goals. Part of what drives my work is my own experience with the life-changing impact of trauma-informed therapy. I know what it’s like to be on the other side of the couch and how powerful it can be to feel truly seen and supported in the healing process.
I’m an introvert who loves people, and in addition to providing mental health services, I also have years of experience working with people of all ages in homeschool groups and as a public library staffer. I am married to my college sweetheart, and we have two children who are now young adults. I love to recharge by crocheting as well as spending time in nature and in the enthusiastic pursuit of mediocre gardening.
